Makhoonik village is located at E060,24.212, N32,27.383, h: 1.6 km in the south of Makhoonik mountain and in Makhoonik plain which includes 12 villages.

Makhoonik is the biggest and the oldest village among the plain, surrounded by the mountains and hills, with a distance of 143Km away from Birjand (The center of south Khorasan) and it is 78 Km away from Sarbisheh at the end of a 15 Km asphalt side road. The population of the village was 725 people including 126 families in 2006.

The dwarves living in this village caused the village to be known as the Lilliput of Iran or the city of the short people. Even comparing the people’s height, you can see that the houses have been built much shorter and smaller. In the past these houses were built lower than the ground level too.

Makhoonik village is shaped under Makhoonik mountain on a rough and sandy ground. Safety, family relationships, weather conditions and less communications with other communities around caused this village to be small and remote.

Village homes have no geometrical shapes and are not cubic. Due to the weather conditions, cold winters and few constructional materials, homes are built next to each other and under the ground level, which all shows the primary style of village residence.

Makhoonik village is one of the 7 wonderful villages in Iran.

On your trip to south Khorasan take a one-day trip to see this historic village.
