Qaabous dome is registered as the 14th Iranian monument in International heritage of the UNESCO. It is located in the North of Gonbade-Kaavous city, 3 Km away from the old city of Jorjan, Ale-Ziyar the capital city, in Golestan province in the North-East of Iran.

Qaabous-ebne-Voshmgir dome is one of the most wonderful Iranian architectures in Islamic era. The tower is the highest brick-dome in the world, built on top of a hill that is 15 m high in 397 Hejira as Qaabous-ebne-Voshmgir (the governor and belletrist of his time) tomb. The tower is 55 m high, considering the height of the hill; it is 70 m above the ground level.

The monument is the evidence of the interchanges between central Asian nomad culture and the archeological civilization of Iran. The tower is the only monument, remained from Jorjan, the center of the old art and science, which was destroyed by the attack of the Mongols during 14th and 15th centuries A.D. Qaabous dome has been an outstanding sample of Islamic architecture, followed in the religious monuments in Iran, Anatoly and central Asia.

The monument is built by bricks. The geometrical shape of the dome is like a cylinder, that gets narrower from 17 m to 15.5 m and there is a brick cone on the top. This form indicates the mathematics and the science of the Islam era by the end of the first millennium A.D.

There is a special place in front of the tower that if you start to speak, you will hear an echo of your voice.

It is recommended to visit this wonderful monument on your trip to the North-east of Iran.
